With gas prices creeping back up, federal election candidates weighed in on the idea of regulating prices at the pumps.

The average cost of prices at the pump in Thunder Bay was about $1.36 on Tuesday, according to gas price monitor, Gasbuddy.com. That wasn’t the case in Sudbury, which was closer to $1.16, and in Timmins, which was at $1.23. Kenora’s prices were near $1.29, but across the border into Winnipeg the price was around $1.16.

When it comes to regulating gas prices, the federal government doesn’t have the power to do so unless it’s a national emergency. The provinces and territories on the other hand do have that power.
