Q. Can automakers demand that car owners use OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts only for oil changes, etc., otherwise the warranty is cancelled?
A. Greg Scott of the Federal Competition Bureau replies: Whenever the Bureau learns about potential anti-competitive behaviour, it has an obligation to conduct a complete investigation. As such, I cannot comment on the example provided without particulars.

when ever i got a new vehicle they told me no but to be safe i would religiously buy oil and filter from a dealer at the appropriate time and save the receipts and do my own changes . Alot cheaper and never had any issues when brought in for warranty work .
