Multi-Pronged Attack Launched in B.C.’s Pipeline Politics | Vaughn Palmer

The New Democrats began their promised effort to block the Trans Mountain pipeline twinning on Thursday, launching a multi-pronged attack on the project with full support of their governing partners, the Greens.

The plan includes new and revised action in the courts, as well as a more rigorous standard for environmental approval and consultations with First Nations.

B.C. will seek to join a broad-based challenge to the project that is scheduled to go ahead in Federal Court this November. It will re-examine its role in a second case where the Squamish First Nation is claiming it was not properly consulted on the project.

Closer to home, the New Democrats will pay particular attention to the as-yet-un-met conditions of the environmental approval certificate issued under the previous B.C. Liberal government.
